Programming

Programs & Services

Structured programs that Food Innovation Centers deploy with their clients — and that brands can access through the CMA network. From white-label incubation to retailer connections, every program is designed around one goal: getting food products to market.

These programs integrate with specialized innovation tools across the CMA ecosystem, including formulation chemistry resources, recipe-to-manufacturing conversion tools, and beverage development platforms.

White-Label Incubation Program

For Centers

A complete, licensable incubation program framework that FICs deploy under their own brand. Covers the full lifecycle from client intake through formula lock and co-packer handoff.

Program Modules

  • Client intake and project assessment protocol
  • Staged milestone framework (Concept → Development → Validation → Graduation)
  • Entrepreneur curriculum: food science basics, regulatory overview, COGS fundamentals
  • Graduation criteria and documentation standards
  • Co-packer referral integration with the CMA network

Intended Outcome

FICs run structured cohorts with consistent outcomes — clients graduate with production-ready products and a clear path to manufacturing.

Retailer Connection Module

For Brands

A structured pathway from FIC graduation to retail buyer engagement. Uses the CMA's 30+ years of grocery, food service, and specialty retail relationships to give FIC graduates a real shot at placement.

Program Modules

  • Retail readiness assessment (packaging, compliance, pricing)
  • Category and channel selection guidance
  • Buyer presentation prep and sell sheet development
  • CMA broker and distributor network introductions
  • First category review participation support

Intended Outcome

FIC graduates who are retail-ready get warm introductions to buyers rather than cold calls — dramatically improving success rates.

Food Service Pathway Program

For Brands

Direct connections to food service distributors, GPOs (group purchasing organizations), and institutional buyers for FIC-graduated brands whose products are suited for restaurant, healthcare, education, or hospitality channels.

Program Modules

  • Food service channel assessment (QSR vs. full service vs. institutional)
  • Packaging and portion format guidance for food service
  • GPO and distributor introduction process
  • Food service pricing and margin modeling
  • Operator pitch and sampling program support

Intended Outcome

FIC brands with food service-appropriate products gain access to channels that would otherwise require years of relationship-building to enter.

Extension Services Program

For Centers

The CMA extension program tailors support to each center's clientele — rural, urban, university-based, or community-focused. This is the glue that aligns all FICs together under "One Group: Food Innovation Centers."

Program Modules

  • Annual FIC operator cohort and peer learning program
  • Shared curriculum and resource library
  • Cross-referral protocols for multi-state client projects
  • Joint grant writing and funding support
  • Collective data and impact reporting

Intended Outcome

FIC operators stop operating in isolation. They share learnings, clients, and resources — collectively serving food entrepreneurs better than any single center could alone.

Client Support Toolkit

For Centers

A comprehensive library of tools, templates, and frameworks for FIC staff to deploy with their clients. Eliminates the need to build everything from scratch while maintaining each center's unique identity.

Program Modules

  • Project management templates for R&D programs
  • Regulatory checklist library (FDA labeling, USDA, state)
  • Shelf-life study design protocols
  • COGS modeling worksheets
  • Co-packer RFQ preparation guides
  • IP and NDA agreement templates

Intended Outcome

FIC staff spend time on science and client relationships — not reinventing administrative infrastructure. New staff get up to speed faster.

Feasibility Assessment Program

Both

Structured technical and commercial feasibility reviews that help both entrepreneurs and FIC operators evaluate product viability before committing to significant R&D investment. Available as a standalone engagement or as part of a full development program.

Program Modules

  • Technical feasibility screening (ingredient availability, processing challenges)
  • Regulatory pathway analysis (FDA vs. USDA, novel ingredients)
  • Competitive landscape and market sizing
  • Preliminary COGS and margin modeling
  • Go/no-go recommendation with documented rationale

Intended Outcome

Entrepreneurs understand what they're getting into before spending money. FICs can triage clients effectively and set realistic expectations.
